Present were Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, his deputy Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, royalties, cabinet ministers and their spouses, foreign and local dignitaries.
The King later cut a birthday cake at the event attended by an estimated 5,000 guests.
Singers Zainal Abidin and Dayang Nurfaizah as well as the Istana Budaya cultural troupe provided the entertainment.

8,000 Restaurants Offering M'sian Cuisines Abroad By 2015
KUALA LUMPUR, June 2 - hopes that Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak8,000 restaurants offering Malaysian cuisines can be opened worldwide by the year 2015.
He said that currently there were only 400 restaurants offering Malaysian dishes which were operating throughout the world.
"Exim Bank (Bank Eksport-Import Malaysia Berhad) should give out loans to anyone interested to set up Malaysian restauarants abroad to encourage more Malaysian entrepreneurs to venture in the food business overseas," he said in his speech at the `Pahang Nite', here.
He hoped that the low interest rate of three percent per annum would be one of the factors that would attract restaurant operators to take up the venture.
He said Malaysia restaurant operators should also change the environment to give the Malaysian look so that patrons could identify the restaurants from their interior designs.
Najib said the Malaysian menu offered delicious food with varieties compared to the restaurants of other countries.
"Foreigners are not familiar with the delicious Malaysian cuisines. I don't want to sound over-patriotic or biased but I know Thai cuisines are very popular but Malaysian cuisines are actually more diversified in their tastes rather than the Thai food," he said.
Najib said the lack of promotion on Malaysian cuisines made them less known compared to the food of other countries.
The `Pahang Nite' organised by the Pahang state government was held in conjunction with the Pahang Food, Cultural and Craft Fest held for a week from Monday.

Govt To Intensify Efforts To Surmount Globalisation Challenges - Abdullah
KUALA LUMPUR, June 2 - Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said the government will continue with efforts to move the country's economy up the value chain to enable it to surmount challenges posed by globalisation.
The prime minister said this was at the core of the Ninth Malaysia Plan which also outlined programmes to add value to the economy, especially in the services and manufacturing sectors which formed the backbone of the country's economy.
"The government is also striving to enhance the country's involvement in high technology sectors, including information communication technology and biotechnology.
"And efforts to transform government-linked companies are also bearing results," he said in his speech at the investiture ceremony in conjunction with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin's birthday at the Istana Negara here today.
Abdullah said the country's economy was also doing well, recording a 5.9 per cent growth last year. The economic expansion, he said, was helmed by the private sector.
The government is also taking steps to enhance the country's fiscal position with the budget deficit already reduced to 3.5 per cent and international reserves standing at RM290.4 billion as at end-2006. Inflation and unemployment are also under control.
"The economy is expected to grow by six per cent this year on the back of expansion in all major economic sectors, including construction," he said.
Abdullah said programmes had been crafted to enhance knowledge and innovation and nurture a first-class mentality among the people.
The education development blueprint, aimed at enhancing the quality of the country's education system by 2010, would turn Malaysia into a regional hub of education excellence, he said.
In ensuring a fair distribution of the fruits of the country's development, the government would double efforts to deal with socio-economic imbalances in a constructive and productive manner.
The prime minister said that continuous efforts would be made to develop the Bumiputera community to narrow the gap in terms of income, assets and wealth.
On the move to create various development corridors like the Iskandar Development Region in southern Johor, he said that it would bring about greater development in the areas concerned for the benefit of the people.
He disclosed that similar development initiatives would be launched in northern and eastern Peninsular Malaysia before year-end.
Abdullah added that Malaysia would continue to work towards improving development efforts and the economic performance of Muslim countries grouped under the Organisation of the Islamic Conference.

KUALA LUMPUR, May 26 - Boycott traders who raise prices to their whims and fancies. This is the advice to the people by Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
The Deputy Prime Minister said boycotting the traders was more effective than enforcement.
He said staying away from outlets that have indiscriminately increased prices would have a stinging impact on errant traders when their premises lose out on customers.
"To us, it will serve a good lesson to irresponsible traders if customers keep away from shops that have revised prices to their whims," he told reporters after a special interview on "Pekan Fest 2007" in the "Selamat Pagi Malaysia" talkshow programme aired live over RTM1 at Angkasapuri this morning.
Najib was responding to a front-page report in Utusan Malaysia today of a trader in Kuala Terengganu selling iced Milo drink at RM1.80 a glass, up 20 to 30 sen, from the normal price of RM1.50 or RM1.60.
The Deputy Prime Minister said that so long the people did not practise smart consumer spending methods, traders would continue to seize the slightest opportunity to jack up prices even with frequent enforcement raids by the authorities.
The media has been highlighting spiralling consumer good prices of late, especially after the announcement on the salary increase for civil servants.
On Monday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi announced a salary rise for government employees, ranging from 7.5 per cent to 35 per cent, and an additional 20 per cent for policemen and soldiers.
The new salary will take effect in July.
On "Pekan Fest 2007", Najib said the programme, featuring education prospects, was aimed at opening up the minds of the locals, particularly the younger generation, on the sweeping changes taking place in other places.
"Whatever we want to do, we must think of the younger set. It is hoped that programmes like these will help change the youths' mindset so that when we introduce new programmes in their areas, they can appreciate them and open up their minds," he said.
Earlier, during the interview, Najib said the five-day festival would kick off on Wednesday which would also promote the Pekan royal town.
"I hope through this festival, we can generate more economic activities to woo investors and visitors to Pekan and Pahang," added Najib, who is also Pekan MP.

KUALA LUMPUR, May 26 - The ringgit is likely to resume its positive rally against the U.S. dollar next week on strong commercial interest for the local unit as more foreign funds continue to hunt for the ringgit in anticipation of the country's better economic performance, a dealer said.
He said the sentiment on the local currency market remained bullish in reaction to a report quoting Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi as saying that the recent strengthening of the ringgit has not been a big problem as it has not affected the country's trade or investment.
In an interview with Japan's Nikkei business daily on Friday, Abdullah was reported as saying that "it was natural for the ringgit to get stronger as the country no longer fixes the exchange rates."
The ringgit was pegged against the dollar at RM3.80 when the government imposed capital controls in September 1998 to ward off currency speculators during the Asian financial crisis. The peg was lifted in July 2005.
The ringgit scaled to as high as RM3.39 against the U.S. dollar on Monday due to aggressive buying of the local unit after Asian currencies rose in reaction to China's decision to widen the yuan's trading band.
On Tuesday, the local unit continued to strengthen to a new nine-year high of RM3.38 per dollar on active buying by local and foreign funds.
The extended gains of the ringgit, according to the dealer, came after Bank Negara Malaysia governor Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz remarked that the ringgit's strong gains are in line with the country's favourable economic performance itself and not related to China's yuan.
The Malaysian Institute of Economic Research said last Monday that the country's economy is expected to pick up in the second half of the year due mainly to higher commodity prices.
Second Finance Minister Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop on Tuesday said the record salary hike for civil servants announced by the prime minister would contribute 0.5 percent to the country's economic growth this year.
"The upward movement of the ringgit last week has raised expectations that the ringgit is well-placed to reach RM3.30 against the greenback soon, more so given the country's strong economic fundamentals," said the dealer.
He also said the pace of the ringgit appreciation, which stood at 3.38 level to the dollar, should not pose any major problem that impacts the country's competitiveness, as regional currencies are also appreciating.
Overall, this week's trading saw the local currency drawing interest from investors despite some profit-taking activities toward the end of the week.
On a week-to-week basis, the ringgit was higher against the U.S. dollar at 3.3905/3925 from last week's Friday level of 3.4000/4020.
Against the Singapore dollar, the local unit appreciated at 2.2179/2202 from 2.2266/2294 in the previous week while it increased against the yen at 2.7931/7954 from 2.8007/8035.
The ringgit went down against the British pound at 6.7325/7378 from 6.7028/7084, but firmed against the euro at 4.5545/5585 from 4.5876/5907.

Segelintir Peniaga Di Terengganu Cuba Naikkan Harga Barang
KUALA TERENGGANU, 25 Mei - Harga barang-barang keperluan di Terengganu masih terkawal walaupun ada segelintir peniaga didapati cuba menaikkan harganya, kata Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Kesihatan, Perpaduan, Hal Ehwal Pengguna dan Alam Sekitar Negeri, Toh Chin Yaw.
Beliau berkata Bahagian Penguatkuasa Kementerian Perdagangan Dalam Negeri dan Hal Ehwal Pengguna sentiasa menjalankan pemeriksaan dan memantau premis-premis perniagaan bagi memastikan peniaga tidak menaikkan harga barang sesuka hati.
"Berdasarkan pemeriksaan, kita dapati ada sebahagian kecil peniaga yang cuba menaikkan harga barang," katanya kepada pemberita selepas menyampaikan sumbangan bantuan kepada lima mangsa satu kejadian kebakaran di sini hari ini.
Pada awal bulan lepas, enam buah rumah di Kampung Tanjung Paya di sini, musnah dalam satu kebakaran. Lima daripada mangsa menerima sumbangan daripada Tabung Bencana Alam Negeri berjumlah RM10,000 setiap seorang manakala seorang lagi menerima sebanyak RM5,000.
Toh berkata pemeriksaan ke pasar-pasar utama dalam negeri akan dilakukan dari semasa ke semasa bagi memastikan bekalan barangan mencukupi dan peniaga mematuhi peraturan harga yang ditetapkan.

SEREMBAN, 26 Mei (Hrkh) - Pendedahan terhadap salah laku kerajaan dalam mengendalikan pilhan raya telah disaksikan sendiri oleh rakyat dengan penyertaan KeADILan dalam pilihan raya kecil dun Ijok pada April yang lalu."Ijok adalah sebuah kesaksian terhadap puluhan jutaan wang dicurah melimpah ruah, semua jentera kerajaan yang sewajarnya berkhidmat untuk rakyat telah dipergunakan untuk kepentingan parti pemerintah sewenang-wenangnya,"kata Presiden Parti KeADILan Rakyat (KeADILan), Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail dalam intipati ucapan dasar Presiden sempena Kongres KeADILan kali keempat.

Mengaturnya bukan sekadar untuk menang tetapi bagi memastikan yang mereka menang dengan majoriti yang tidak kurang satu undi pun dari Pilihan Raya Umum 2004 yang lalu.
Walaupun begitu, ujar Wan Azizah keadilan digeruni bukan sahaja dibarisi oleh "pimpinan kelas pertama" tetapi kerana dasar keadilan yang menjangkau batas kaum, agama dan kefahaman sempit.
Sepanjang pilihan raya berlangsung, kerajaan BN telah mengarahkan pasukan keselamatan baik dari sb(special Branch) dan FRU serta dibantu secara jijik oleh pihak media yang dikuasai oleh BN untuk menggambarkan keadilan dengan seburuk-buruk wajah.
Unsur-unsur 'gangsterism' dilihat sebagai elemen utama yang telah menjadi tembok pertahanan utama BN untuk menang, selain beliau turut mengingatkan suruhanjaya pilihan raya dan pihak polis supaya memikul amanah rakyat dengan adil dan telus.
Beliau juga bimbang jika keadaan berat sebelah ini berterusan maka tidak mustahil apa yang berlaku di filipina, dan beberapa negara di Afrika akan berulang di Malaysia.
Kerajaan BN juga digambarkan terdesak dengan tindakan-tindakan mereka sehingga sanggup menurap jalan hingga ke depan anak tangga tanpa henti hampir dua puliuah empat jam ketikan Pilihan Raya Kecil Dun Ijok.
Menurut Wan Azizah, kerajaan hari ini tidak putus-putus mencabar dan memperbodoh rakyat walaupun selepas menang besar pada tahun 2004, namun siapakah yang boleh bertindak atas kesombongan dan kerakusan pemerintah ini, ujarnya.
"Kalau mata menjadi saksi, maka apakah rakyat ditipu lagi?sekalipun kita tewas secara tipu tetapi sokongan rakyat dalam tempoh seouluh hari berkempen cukup membanggakan, kebangkitan rakyat dalam Pilihan Raya Kecil Ijok sangat luar biasa," katanya.
Bagaimanapun pendokong perjuangan perlu berhati-hati kerana jika bergantung kepada semangat sahaja ia tidak akan memastikan kemenangan sebaliknya usaha dan gerak kerja perlu dijalankan, katanya.
Atas nama keadilan beliau menyeru seluruh ahli agar terus bekerja kuat menghadapi pilihan raya dan atas kesaksian Ijok, ahli perlu lebih bersedia dalam menghadapi pilihan raya umum ini nanti, katanya.
Bercakap mengenai persediaan pilihan raya umum bagi keadilan beliau berkata, setakat ini pimpinan tertinggi diperingkat akhir mengenalpasti kawasan parlimen dan dun yang akan ditandingi.
Justeru pemimpin diperingkat bahagian perlu mengumpulkan maklumat, data dan angka yang boleh menjadi panduan bagi mencappai keputusan muktamad, katanya.
"Setelah pemimpin membuat keputusan, janganlah hendaknya ada suara-suara yang berbaur perpecahan kerana barang apsti pihak lawan akan mengambil kesempatan terhadap situasi ini," tegasnya dengan disambut tepukan gemuruh perwakilan, pemerhati dan hadirin kongres.
Dalam isu yang lain, KeADILan membantah keras sikap kerajaan yang menjadikan anak muda 'kambing hitam' yang dipaparkan setiap hari di media massa,katanya.
Tundingan termasuk kepada mat-mat rempit adalah sebahagian daripada strategi psikologi pemerintah yang mahu memaksa anaka muda tunduk kepada mereka bagi menutup kegagalan kerajaan membendung masalah sosial,katanya.
"Rahsia kebangkitan dan kekuatan banyak bangsa di dunia adalah apabila mereka (anaka muda) dapat membebaskan diri dari ketidakmatangan yang ditunggangi sendiri sepertimana yang ditemukan oleh pemikir eropah, Immanuel Kant dalam esei bertajuk 'Apa Itu Pencerahan'," katanya.
Dalam menyentuh isu rasuah yang membelenggu negara hari ini, Wan Azizah berkata indeks persepsi rasuah di negara ini semakin meningkat kerana adanya komisyen kontrak tertentu yang disapu segelintir pemimpin dan peniaga di kalangan kroni pemerintah.
"Rasuah tetap rasuah walaupun diberi nama apa sekalipun termasuklah dengan nama 'komisyen' begitulah yang pernah diingatkan oleh Allahyarham Syed Hussien Al Attas dalam penulisan beliau 'Sociology of corruption'," katanya.
Bagi KeADILan, rasuah bukan sahaja merupakan musuh yang melemahkan sistem pemerintahan, malah ia akan menyebabkan sebuah negara musnah.
KeADILan secara konsisten akan menjuarai perjuangan menentang rasuah, tegasnya.
Pembukaan sidang kongres KeADILan kali ini meriah dengan kehadiran pelbagai lapisan masyarakat selain lebih 1500 perwakilan yang akan membahas usul, ucapan dasar, selain memilih pucuk kepimpinan parti.

Abdullah Returns Home After Five-day Working Visit To Japan
OSAKA, May 25 - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi left for home Friday after a five-day working visit to Japan to further strengthen bilateral relations.
Abdullah left for Kuala Lumpur boarding a special aircraft from Kansai International Airport, here.
He was sent off by Malaysian Ambassador to Japan Datuk Mohd Radzi Abdul Rahman.
Abdullah wrapped up his visit to Japan by meeting Malaysian students here.
During his visit, Abdullah among others held bilateral talks with his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe, delivered a keynote address at the 13th Nikkei International Conference and was awarded with an honorary doctorate from Meiji University.

Abdullah Wants Solar Energy Development Intensified
OSAKA, May 25 - Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said that Malaysia should intensify efforts to develop alternative energy sources, especially solar power, by emulating Japan in this field.
Impressed by the widespread use of solar energy in Japan including for street lighting, the prime minister said that its usage should be widened as it could save money.
Abdullah said that efforts to harness solar power and other alternative energy sources in Malaysia should not be hampered by technological constraints.
"This can be overcome by forging cooperation in research and development (R&D) with Japan, a country known for having numerous techniques to exploit solar energy," he told a news conference at the end of his five-day visit to Japan.
He said that humans should know how to tap solar energy for their consumption by developing a sound technology so that many can benefit from it.
Asked whether costly equipment contributed to the low usage of solar energy in Malaysia, he said: "It's not as expensive as before. Some middle-class households are using solar power but not for the entire house."
On his meeting with his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe in Tokyo, Abdullah said the Japanese leader expressed concern over global warming which was threatening the world's population now.
He said that Japan was committed to resolve the problem, targetting to bring down the earth's temperature by 2050.
Abdullah further said that Japan was prepared to provide assistance and the technology to enable developing countries to deal with global warming.
"He (Abe) said Japan is ready to work with other countries so that together they can focus on global warming. I told him that as an industrial powerhouse, Japan would surely have the means to carry out its plans," he added.
Abdullah said Malaysia was also prepared to extend whatever cooperation needed to ensure the global warming menace could be jointly tackled by the international community.
Meanwhile, the prime minister said that he would discuss with Transport Minister Datuk Seri Chan Kong Choy on the possibility of fixing undercarriage safety bar on lorries to prevent horrific accidents involving pedestrians and motorcylicts.
Noting that the use of such a device in Japan had caught his attention, he said it could prevent gory scenes of mutilated bodies when humans were dragged under heavy vehicles when accidents occurred.

Najib Disappointed Over Leakage At Jalan Duta Court Complex
KUALA SELANGOR, May 25 - Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today expressed his disappointment over the leakage at the new court complex in Jalan Duta recently.
"We are disappointed with these frequent leakages," he told reporters after visiting the Bukit Tagar sanitary landfill here today.
Najib was asked to comment on a burst pipe on Tuesday which caused flooding at the cafeteria of the brand-new RM270 million complex, touted as the world's second largest court complex.
He said the government would wait for a report on the incident from the Public Works Department before making any decision.
On another matter, he said he was not aware of any circular sent to the Umno divisions and branches to prepare for a general election.
He said, however, that issuing circulars was normal because preparation was a normal thing for the party.
"It does not mean that election is imminent. Election is not decided on the basis of circular, but decided by the prime minister's consideration in terms of the most appropriate time to have an election," he added.
